Olympian Michael Saywell passes away!
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the passing on April 2nd of Olympian and International Show Jumper Michael Saywell. Mike rode Hideaway for Trevor Banks’s Yorkshire stable when he had the best British score in the team competition at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
Another very successful combination from the Golden Age of Show Jumping. Mikes daughter Louise is a very successful international rider in her own right and with her brother Andrew continues Mike’s legacy.
Trevor Banks was from Beverley in Yorkshire near Hull and brought out many top horses. He was also responsible for finding and selling Goodwill to H.R.H. Princess Anne, her Olympic mount at Bromont in Montreal. Michael and his team-mates – David Broome, Harvey Smith and Ann Moore – finished fourth in Munich.
Chainbridge, another horse owned by Trevor Banks, later took Michael to two major individual victories when winning the 1976 King George V Gold Cup at Wembley and the 1978 Dublin Grand Prix.
Chainbridge was later ridden very successfully by Malcolm Pyrah. Michael often represented Great Britain around the world and was a very well liked gentle man that we were fortunate to have on many British teams. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues and all who were fortunate enough to know him in our equestrian family. Rest In Peace Michael as you join your fellow equestrians in that great show ground in the sky.

Feel free to drop condolences messages and prayers for the family and friends of the deceased as it will go a very long way at this difficult time of theirs.
