In a few weeks, Anthony Chatzimanolakis hoped to be granted bail. The 30-year-old had many plans for the future, including marrying his fiancée, but he needed stomach surgery due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident that almost killed him years earlier.
His grieving family and fiancée, on the other hand, are preparing for his burial.
At the Toronto South Correctional Center on Saturday, Chatzimanolakis passed away. Although his family has been informed that it was likely an overdose, they are still awaiting the results of the inquiry into his tragic demise.
Paramedics were contacted on Saturday, according to a statement from a ministry of the solicitor general spokeswoman, “when personnel discovered an inmate unresponsive and in medical distress in his cell.” Due to continuing investigations, no other information could be given, according to the statement.
