Passing of Jackie Daniels, one of De La Salle GAA & Camogie Club’s finest.
Everyone connected with De La Salle GAA and Camogie Club are deeply shocked and saddened with the recent untimely passing of Jackie Daniels.
Not only did Jackie’s two sons Steven and Robert give outstanding service both as underage and adult players to our club, Jackie herself gave many hours over a long number of years to her beloved De La Salle GAA Club.
She served on the club’s juvenile committee for many years, was involved in organising many fundraising and social events but will be most fondly remembered for her outstanding service as first aid officer to numerous teams down through the years.
Hundreds of De La Salle players, both young and old, would have witnessed at first hand Jackie’s kindness and concern in that role. Many long hours were spent attending to injuries and making sure that our injured young players were properly looked after, both during and after games.
Jackie’s primary concern was her family and she was particularly proud of the achievements of her two sons Steven and Robert on the playing field and her daughter Kate on the athletics track. Somehow, in between working full time and raising a young family, Jackie found time to give so generously to her beloved De La Salle GAA Club. She was also a huge supporter from the outset for our newly formed Camogie Club and endeared herself in particular to our girls from the Presentation Primary school (where she worked for many years).
Always a very sociable person, Jackie loved the after-match celebrations in the old centre and will be remembered by most for her attendance as First Aid Officer at numerous hurling and football Feiles all over the country, where socialising and meeting new friends was just as important as the games.
While not as involved on the field in recent years, Jackie always remained a loyal member and took a great interest in all club activities. You would be always sure of getting a ‘good luck’ or ‘congratulations’ text before or after any major game.
Her passing at such a young age is hard to understand and she will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all in De La Salle GAA and Camogie Club.
