Tragedy struck on Friday night as Colton Bond of Edna and his grandparents, Jimmy Bond and Barbara Bond, lost their lives in a fatal vehicle accident.
Tragedy struck Edna on the night of May 26, 2023, as three of its residents lost their lives in a fatal accident. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm in Labette County, located in the western region of Kansas. The victims were traveling in a truck that collided with a cow, resulting in the unfortunate and untimely demise of the individuals.
A traffic accident took place on U.S. 166, specifically six miles to the east of U.S.
An incident involving an 81-year-old man named Jimmy Bond has been reported by the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP). As per the KHP, Bond collided with a cow while driving his Dodge Ram pickup in an easterly direction on Kansas Highway 166.
The incident resulted in a malfunction of the vehicle. As a result, the truck veered into the opposite lane of traffic.
In an attempt to avoid Bond’s truck, the other driver made a maneuver but unfortunately was unsuccessful. The collision between the truck and the other vehicle was a head-on impact. Tragically, an 81-year-old individual was accompanied by two family members, namely his 21-year-old grandson, Colton Bond, and his 79-year-old wife, Barbara Bond, during their travels.
At the scene, Colton Bond, Jimmy Bond, and Barbara Bond were declared deceased. According to reports, the other driver sustained minor injuries.
A 21-year-old college cowboy, accompanied by his grandfather and grandmother, was on his way back home after attending the Kansas High School Rodeo Association Finals in Mulvane to watch his younger brother, Tagg, compete.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a collision occurred between a truck driven by Jimmy Bond, who is Colton’s grandfather, and a cow on U.S. Highway 166. The impact caused the vehicle to veer into the westbound lane.
In a tragic turn of events, a westbound semi driver attempted to evade a collision with the Bonds, but unfortunately, he was unable to do so in time, leading to a devastating head-on collision.
