In what seems to be an ambush-style incident, a West Virginia State Police trooper was shot on Friday afternoon in the Beech Creek region of Mingo County, according to WVSP.
For medical attention, that trooper was brought to Logan Memorial Hospital.
During the incident in the Matewan neighborhood of Beech Creek, another individual was shot as well. It was responded to as a call for shots fired.
Timothy Kennedy, 29, of Beech Creek, has been named as the suspect by the West Virginia State Police, who are still searching for him.
Officials attempted to land a chopper earlier in the evening so they could fly the trooper to a hospital for treatment. Nothing is known about the trooper’s or the second victim’s condition.
Kennedy is reportedly armed and dangerous, so locals are being advised to take refuge in their houses.
The graduation ceremony at Mingo Central High School has been postponed until further notice, according to a statement from the Mingo County Board of Education.
