Two people were killed in a small plane crash Thursday near the Rio Vista Airport, according to police. The Rio Vista Police Department said the plane went down at 11:46 a.m. east of the airport.
Two people were inside the plane at the time of the crash, and both died at the scene, police said. Officials did not immediately release details on the identities of the deceased individuals, citing pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
The plane crashed in a privately owned field just east of the airport. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office said it got 911 calls from citizens reporting the crash.
It is unclear if the plane was landing or taking off when the crash happened, or how long it had been in the air.
Police Identified Two Victim Killed in Fatal Plane Crash
On Friday, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in a plane crash on Thursday in the vicinity of Rio Vista Municipal Airport. The deceased were identified as Benjamin Shreve, a 41-year-old Concord resident, and Jesse Buckner, a 33-year-old Martinez resident.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a crash involving a single-engine Steen Skybolt aircraft was reported at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.
On Friday, the news was shared on Facebook by Jessica Raine Buckner, the widow of Jesse.
Jessica wrote that she wishes it were just a dream, but unfortunately, the reality is setting in as she lays in bed typing this. The individual stated that their experience has been quite tumultuous, but they feel fortunate to have shared 17 years with their companion.
According to sources, the National Transportation Safety Board is currently conducting an investigation into the crash that occurred on Thursday. A report detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident is expected to be released by the board.
