Jaylin Osborne Obituary News: 15-year-old 8th Grader at Digital Pioneers Academy Shoot dead on Stanton Road Near Suitland Parkway
As the community at their school continues to grieve the loss of yet another young life, one of the school’s leaders is begging with parents to keep their children indoors and under supervision during the summer.
Jaylin Osborne, 15, an eighth-grader at Digital Pioneers Academy, has been identified as the victim of a shooting that occurred on Stanton Road near Suitland Parkway on Tuesday night.
On Thursday, the school will reopen its doors after being closed for the summer holiday. During this time, grief counselors will be accessible for the children and instructors at the school.
“We are angry, but we just have to do something, it’s just not OK,” said Mashea Ashton, founder and CEO of the Democratic Progressive Association (DPA). “That is what the consensus among our experts is. This is the consensus among members of our community. And to tell you the truth, our parents are in utter disbelief and grief. Therefore, we will continue our search for a glimmer of hope amidst all of this despair. But at the moment, it is really challenging.
Osborne was a bright student, a dedicated friend, and a big brother who had hopes of joining the school’s football team in the fall. This athletic program was launched with the help of the NFL players coalition in memory of two other students who lost their lives to gun violence last year, as well as a teacher who died in an encounter with law enforcement. Ashton addressed a letter to the faculty and families of the school on Wednesday night. In the letter, she describes Osborne as a bright student.
