Dilano Van’t Hoff Obituary News: Dutch Driver dies in a Crash in FRECA Race at Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium
According to a statement from his team MP Motorsport, 18-year-old Dutch driver Dilano van ‘t Hoff passed away on Saturday as a result of an accident that occurred during the second Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) event at Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium.
The specifics of the accident’s cause have not been made public.
“We are devastated at the loss of one of our brightest Dutch talents, who brought so much energy to our team during the years he raced with us,” the team’s statement read.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dilano’s family and friends, and we stand fully behind them as well as the members of our team who have lost not only a driver but also a friend.”
In 2021, Van ‘t Hoff made his MP Motorsport debut and easily captured the Spanish Formula 4 title.
In 2022, he advanced to compete in the Formula 3 regional series FRECA, although his maiden season was marred by injuries.
The governing body for motorsports, the FIA, acknowledged the news and sent its “condolences to the family and friends of Dilano van ‘t Hoff and to the MP Motorsport Team” in a statement on Saturday.
When word of the teen’s passing spread around the motorsports community, Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, sent his sympathies.
He released a statement saying, “We are so saddened to learn of Dilano van ‘t Hoff’s passing today at Spa-Francorchamps.”
“Dilano died in the pursuit of his dream to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.”
This weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix began, and Formula 1 teams and drivers have expressed their sympathies.
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz wrote on Twitter that it was “an extremely sad day for the entire motorsport family” and that his “my thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends.”
