Cassie and Francis Collins Obituary News: Married couple found dead at their home in Station Road, Cullompton
An inquest has heard that the married couple who were discovered dead alongside their pet dogs committed a double suicide. A family member who was worried about Cassie Collins, 35, and Francis Collins, 36, who were both dealing with difficulties in their lives, found them.
Before Francis was sentenced to prison for hurling handmade firebombs onto a neighbor’s driveway as a result of a legal dispute over the ownership of a plot of land, the two had been living in west Wales. In late 2020, the couple moved to Devon. They were described as being “really good together and joined at the hip” during an inquest into their deaths held at Exeter’s Coroners Court.
The two were discovered dead at their Station Road, Cullompton, residence on September 11. The couple had taken a number of pre-planned activities in the time before the catastrophe, including writing a joint will, sending letters and emails, and having two of their dogs put to sleep. The couple reportedly terrified that everything would be taken away from them when a new police probe into Francis was opened, according to information provided to the coroner.
Cassie, who was born in Exeter, reportedly spent many years in constant pain as a result of knee and shoulder ailments that prevented her from working and frequently forced her to stay in bed. She told her physiotherapist she felt “trapped in a cage” and that she was being cared for by a pain management team.
She had been referred to the NHS program Talkworks, and after stating that she had no plans to commit suicide, she was released in August 2021. According to reports, she loves playing with her nephews, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her pets.
Francis, a Hereford native, was reported to have attempted suicide in the past and had a lengthy history of despair and anxiety. He was also said to have been diagnosed with adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) while living in the USA. He was evaluated by Talkworks in May 2021 and was immediately referred to the NHS mental health team because of his severe psychotic depression and everyday suicidal thoughts.
He described how his father took his own life when he was 10 years old. He was observed to have persistent back discomfort, to be under financial strain, and to be anxious about the ongoing police inquiry. Francis was assigned to the community mental health team’s care while he awaited an ADHD evaluation.
