James Thompson Obituary: An off duty Raleigh police officer identified among 5 killed in North Carolina mass shooting.

29-year-old officer Gabriel Torres, 16-year-old James Roger Thompson, 34-year-old Mary Marshall, 49-year-old Susan Karnatz, and 52-year-old Nicole Conners are now identified as victims in Thursday mass shooting in East Raleigh, NC.

According to authorities, the shooting started around 5:00 p.m. near Neuse River Greenway in the Hedingham neighborhood near Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive.

The shooter is identified as 15-year-old Austin Thompson. His brother, James was one of the victims.

Keith Richardson, the principal at Knightdale High School, where James Thompson attended and was a junior, said in a statement to parents that “this is an incredibly difficult time for our school community as well as the broader Raleigh community.”

After barricading himself inside a barn, the Austin was apprehended by police just after 9:30 p.m. near Old Milburnie Road and McConnel Oliver Drive.
