Car Accident South Edmonton: One killed; Two injured in solo car crash in south Edmonton.
Authorities have now confirmed a male passenger in his 60s died in a single-vehicle crash that happened in south Edmonton on Thursday afternoon.
The rollover crash happened around 2 p.m. on northbound Gateway Boulevard near 41 Avenue SW, authorities said.
Investigators claim that a Dodge Charger was traveling north on Gateway Boulevard when it entered the area separating the north and south lanes of traffic, veered back across all six lanes, and then entered the area on the east side of the road. It then struck the guard rail and overturned onto the Ellerslie Road off-ramp.
The 54-year-old male driver of the Charger suffered critical wounds. As a precaution, the 24-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital.
For a while, the off-ramp to Ellerslie Road and all northbound lanes of Gateway Boulevard at Ellerslie Road were closed.
Impairment and speed are being considered as factors in the crash.
Investigations are ongoing.
