Retired GSP Master Trooper Ronnie Gay who starred in “Smokey and the Bandit” has passed away.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the family of retired Master Trooper Ronnie Gay, a member of the 43rd Trooper school serving the state of Georgia for over 30 years, passed away last evening,” the Georgia Department of Public Safety announced via a statement shared on Facebook on Saturday.
“Both in the classic “Smokey and the Bandit” and in real life, Georgia Department of Public Safety retired Master Trooper Ronnie Gay brought laughter to everyone while serving his fellow Georgians faithfully and well. His long and distinguished career included time at the Governor’s Mansion, where he continues to be remembered fondly,” Governor Brian Kemp wrote via a Facebook post.
