Lia Mortensen Obituary – Cause of Death: Prominent Chicago actress, Lia Mortensen dies at 57.
Mortensen died at the age of 57 on Wednesday at Northwestern Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on June 15, 1965 to the late Dale T. Mortensen, and raised in Evanston.
In 1996, the Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, a brand-new theater in Chicago, made its debut by announcing its intention to cast the best actors in the most literary plays it could find. Lia Mortensen played the neurotic Ruth in that first performance, whose unrecognized ideas form the basis of Tom Stoppard’s “Night and Day.”
Her presence and her brilliant performance served as a sign that Remy Bumppo was in complete control.
