When her husband David Knight and his friend Graham MacDonald were identified as the criminals behind planning the grisly murder, the case against Carmela Knight took a catastrophic turn.
In September 2014, MacDonald attacked and strangled Carmela, a 39-year-old woman. Later, without leaving any traces, he burned her body inside the garage of her Pebblestone Crescent house in Ontario.
The police went undercover in a sting operation named Mr. Big to extract a confession from the murderer after trailing the suspects for weeks.
A few months later, police apprehended the plot’s creator and the hired murderer, who were later found guilty of first-degree murder, arson, and conspiracy to commit murder. Matthew Knight, the victim’s brother-in-law, was also mentioned as a potential suspect.
MacDonald’s confession, which the authorities were able to obtain, made it very plain how the two men intended to carry out their murderous scheme.
