Caitlyn Pollock Death: Kyle McDowell of Flowery Branch Charged with DUI in Car Accident: A Flowery Branch resident is accused of many offenses, including driving while intoxicated, according to Gwinnett County police, following an accident on Saturday that claimed the life of a Mill Creek cheerleader.
Kyle McDowell, a 21-year-old resident of Flowery Branch, was the driver of the car that collided with the concrete barrier as it was entering State Route 316 from the northbound lanes of Sugarloaf Parkway, according to Master Police Officer Senior Hideshi Valle. Caitlyn Pollock, a 16-year-old native of Buford, was in the car with McDowell and another six passengers.
Pollock, a cheerleader at Mill Creek High School, passed away as a result of the accident’s injuries.
According to Valle, McDowell was Monday attending a neighborhood hospital to heal from minor wounds.
McDowell is accused of driving while intoxicated less safely, failing to keep his lane, and first-degree vehicular homicide.
According to Valle, the accident is still being investigated. The five other passengers in the car were not immediately known, nor were their circumstances.
Parents and guardians of Mill Creek High School received a letter from principal Jason Lane late on Sunday night informing them that social workers and counselors would be present at the school on Monday to support the mourning students.
I’m writing to let you know about the untimely death of a Mill Creek High student over the weekend,” Lane wrote. “As they deal with this enormous personal loss, our hearts and thoughts are with the student’s family, friends, and loved ones. We will have a solemn moment of quiet on Monday in honor of our student, classmate, and friend.”
