Police are looking into an alleged bullying incident involving teens, who are reportedly Glynn Academy students, that allegedly left the victim in critical condition and on a ventilator, according to social media posts.
The criminal investigation division of the Glynn County Police Department is gathering facts, interviews, evidence, and other pertinent information about the incident, according to a release from the Glynn County Board of Commissioners on Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s Silent Witness line at 912-264-1333 or email tips to [email protected].
County Police Capt. Michael Robinson stated on Sunday that the matter is still being investigated and is quite recent.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, according to Robinson.
A family member present wanted to report hazing when officers arrived to Southeast Georgia Health System’s emergency department on Tuesday at 9:45 p.m., according to a police call record.
For access to the complete study, The News has made a formal open records request.
The Glynn County Citizens on Patrol Facebook page has a snapshot of four lads gathered around another boy who appears to be unconscious and smeared in various objects and liquids. Two of the boys are smiling with their middle fingers raised. The victim was possibly spray painted while being taped to a chair.
A young man in a hospital bed using a ventilator is seen in another picture in the post. According to the post, the boys in the photo tied a child who was not responding to a chair and “sprayed him from head to toe” with paint, among other things.
The message stated, “Then dropped him off in the ER.” He is currently struggling for his life while on a ventilator.
The photographs, according to the Facebook post published at 9:43 a.m. on Sunday, were initially uploaded to Snap Chat.
One of the comments had a brief video of what appeared to be teenage males and girls hanging around outside, with one of the lads using a water hose to spray another boy who appeared to be having problems moving. When the video was made is unknown.
On social media on Sunday, other remarks and posts suggested that the victim had been made to consume copious amounts of alcohol and ingest drugs like mushrooms before passing out.
As of Sunday afternoon, neither the victim nor any suspects had been formally identified by the police.
Due to the nature of the crime, The News would generally not name the victim in this case, but Trenton Lehrkamp is named as the victim on a GoFundMe account that has been set up and is being shared on social media to gather money for Lehrkamp and his family. “Justice for Trent” is the name of the page.
