Joe Yanta Car Accident: UPMC doctor charged with DUI in July crash that killed fellow doctor Douglas Rockacy.

In a collision that claimed the life of another doctor in July, UPMC doctor Joe Yanta is charged of DUI.

Statistics from the Tesla in a 35 mph zone on Wexford Bayne Road, Joseph Yanta was traveling above 120 mph when he lost control and crashed, killing Douglas Rockacy. Both were emergency room physicians at UPMC.

Rockacy and Yanta played golf before visiting Cenci’s Pizza in Wexford, according to information provided to police by Rockacy’s relatives. Yanta is shown on film consuming six cocktails over the course of two and a half hours, according to the criminal complaint.

Within two hours of the collision, authorities reported that Yanta’s blood alcohol level was.172%, more than twice the legal limit.

Yanta, according to the police, was wearing a seatbelt, but Rockacy was not.

According to court records, Yanta was being detained in the Allegheny County Jail after a judge denied bail during his arraignment early Thursday morning.
