Matteo Guajardo and Danielle Duncan Obituary – Car Accident: Mt. Lebanon School District alum killed in “tragic” New Vernon Township car accident; Another injured.
The deceased victim in a two-vehicle collision that happened in Mercer County on Friday, November 11, 2022, is now identified as 19-year-old Danielle J. Duncan of Pittsburgh.
Around 8:04 p.m. on Friday, the collision occurred on I-79 north close to milepost 129 in New Vernon Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Preliminary investigations revealed 18-year-old Matteo Guarjardo was traveling south on I-79 when he lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the road to the east and collided with an embankment. According to the police, the vehicle over an embankment, flipped over, and then came to a rest in the left lane of the northbound I-79.
The car was blocking the left lane and had broken down, according to the police. The passenger side of another vehicle was struck, and both cars left I-79 North’s east side.
Danielle Duncan, a Pittsburgh resident aged 19 who was riding with Guarjardo, was declared dead at the scene.
A nearby hospital received Guarjardo due to a potential major injury. According to the police, he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The second driver sustained no wounds.

The Mt. Lebanon School District is deeply saddened by the news of the tragic accident last evening on I-79 that involved two of our alumni.
We wish to express our condolences to the family and friends of Danielle Duncan, who passed away in the accident. And, our thoughts are with the family and friends of Matteo Guajardo who was severely injured in the accident.
Our schools will have counseling staff available on Monday to support the family and friends of Danielle and Matteo. Please keep both families in your thoughts during these difficult times.
