Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez Car Accident: Man from Diamond Bar charged in Whittier crash that injured 25 law enforcement recruits.
22-year-old wrong way driver Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez from Diamond Bar who drove into a crowd of LASD recruits in Whittier during their morning training early Wednesday morning has been charged for assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder of peace officers.
Gutierrez was arrested Wednesday. Authorities believe he intentionally crashed into the officers.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the 25 recruits suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical.
Early on Wednesday, the event took place in the South Whittier neighborhood, close to Mills Avenue and Trumball Street. Sheriff Alex Villanueva claims that the motorist struck a class of roughly 75 recruits while they were running as part of a training exercise.
The 25 recruits suffered injuries from brain trauma to limb loss as a result of the crash.
Additional charges are currently pending, as investigations are ongoing.
