Charleston Car Accident: Two drivers killed in head-on collision on Route 130 south of Charleston.
Early on Monday, a head-on crash on Illinois Highway 130 in southeast Coles County claimed the lives of both drivers.
One of the drivers has been identified as Micah J. Morrison, 47, of Mattoon, according to a report made late Monday morning by Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers. He claimed that until the family has been informed, his office will not reveal the identity of the second driver, a 50-year-old male from Fairfield. Both of the drivers, he claimed, passed away at the site; neither had any passengers in the cars.
According to the Illinois State Police’s preliminary investigation, the Fairfield man was driving his SUV north on Route 130 at around 5:30 a.m., about a quarter mile south of Coles County Road 300 North, when it for some reason crossed the center line and hit the front of the other driver’s car traveling south.
According to the State Police, the investigation, which is ongoing, resulted in the closure of both lanes of Highway 130 for around four hours. The collision happened south of the Westfield Road and north of the Fox Ridge State Park entry road.
