Vero Beach Car Accident: Woman dies in two-car crash on Oslo Road; Another injured.
After a crash at an Oslo Road intersection during morning rush hour on Friday, an 84-year-old Vero Beach woman died and a 34-year-old Vero Beach woman was taken to a trauma center.
The accident between two cars at 27th Avenue Southwest and Oslo Road shut down the busy southwest county road for hours. Local law enforcement officials say that it reopened around 12 p.m. after an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
A news release about what happened Friday evening said that FHP investigators found that both women were the only people in their cars, which were only called “sedans.”
The 84-year-old was driving east on Oslo Road in the inside lane when he went through a red light at 27th Avenue Southwest. According to the report, she hit the left front side of the second car as it turned left from northbound 27th Avenue Southwest onto westbound Oslo at a steady green arrow.
Highway officials said that the eastbound sedan stopped off the road on the northeast side of the intersection, while the second car turned clockwise and stopped in the intersection facing east.
Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Steve Grier said that emergency workers were sent to the scene at 8:02 a.m. after the crash was reported at 8:01.
Grier said that the woman in the first car was taken to HCA Florida Vero Beach Emergency at 660 South U.S. 1, where she later died from her injuries. The 34-year-old was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.
The FHP did not say who was in the crash or what their names were.
