Alhambra Car Accident: 3 injured in crash as driver flees suspected catalytic converter theft.
After a single vehicle rollover accident at an Alhambra junction on Thursday morning involving a motorist who was allegedly trying to elude South Pasadena police during a suspected catalytic converter theft attempt, three persons were sent to the hospital, according to the authorities.
The suspect drove off the road before the crash, which happened at the intersection of Concord and Fremont avenues.
According to the South Pasadena Police Department, the pursuit started when an officer was on patrol in the 1600 block of Fremont Avenue at around three in the morning when he saw a double-parked Lexus vehicle next to a Toyota Prius.
When the officer started a traffic stop, the subject sped away, running many red traffic lights as he did so.
The officer stopped the pursuit due to the hazardous conditions and alerted the Alhambra Police Department. Later, a police officer from Alhambra discovered the single-vehicle rollover accident.
Three people have been recognized as being in the car: a 16-year-old boy from Los Angeles, Elmer Contreras Robinson, 28, of Cudahy, and Alberto Avitia, 25, of Huntington.
Firefighters said that all three of them were hurt as a result of one person being ejected and two others being trapped in the car.
