State troopers reported on Wednesday that a deadly accident earlier this week in Copperas Cove is being attributed to road debris.
Traffic was backed up in both directions due to the deadly accident that occurred Monday afternoon at the State Highway 9 and Interstate 14 intersection, close to the eastern city limits of Cove. According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sgt. Bryan Washko, one driver in the multi-vehicle collision was ejected. Officials have not yet identified the driver since his next of kin have not been notified; he was not wearing a seatbelt.
According to Washko, the collision occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Monday while three automobiles were going east on State Highway 9 near Fort Hood, east of Copperas Cove. On the right lane was a 2015 Chevrolet truck, and in the left lane was a 2008 Nissan Maxima. In the left lane, a 1999 Dodge 1500 pickup truck was following the Nissan.
The driver of the Chevy noticed debris in the road as he approached the Interstate 14 ramp and swerved to the left, striking the Nissan.
