Sunday afternoon, Route 2 was closed in both directions for a number of hours due to a catastrophic head-on collision in Greenfield on the Mohawk Trail.
The two-car collision, which happened on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., caused severe injuries, according to Greenfield Police Deputy Chief William Gordon.
Five persons were hurt in total, including two parents from one vehicle who were flown to the trauma unit at Baystate Medical Center while their two children were transported by ambulance. A fifth unconnected individual was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by ambulance.
Investigation is ongoing by the Greenfield Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
