After playing a concert in South Florida, the iconic rock band Def Leppard’s drummer was allegedly attacked Monday night at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale.
59-year-old Rick Allen was being attacked by a man as he stood in the Four Seasons Hotel’s valet area, according to Miami television station WSVN. According to a complaint from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Max Edward Hartley, 19, of Avon, Ohio, was detained on suspicion of seriously injuring an elderly or disabled adult.
Although Allen’s name is not given in the police report, it does mention that the attack victim lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984.
Allen, an English-born drummer who joined Def Leppard in 1978, suffered severe injuries in a New Year’s Eve vehicle accident in 1984, leading to the amputation of his left arm. He carried on playing with Def Leppard utilizing a custom drum set.
