The Winfield lady was beaten to death by her lover, who ran a gas station a half-mile from her home, authorities said. She was discovered dead in her bedroom last month.
After being detained on Monday, 65-year-old Raju Rawal was officially accused on Tuesday with killing 36-year-old Haley Losinski.
According to an affidavit from a Winfield police officer, Losinski, a nurse, was discovered dead and knelt over her bed on February 27. The gruesome finding was revealed by her mother in Losinki’s Pike Place residence.
The day after, Losinski was found dead, according to an autopsy report.
In the affidavit, police reported seeing red marks around Losinski’s neck and a crimson liquid that they believed to be blood on the bed close to her body.
According to court documents, the autopsy report determined that her death was a homicide and that blunt force trauma to the head was the cause. According to the criminal documents, the pathologist Dr. Zhou Wang stated that Losinski’s body had also undergone postmortem sexual activity.
When officers went back to Losinski’s house on February 28, according to papers, they discovered a rubber mallet tucked under a pillow not far from where she was knelt. Initially, officers had not discovered a murder weapon at the premises.
According to the affidavit, Wang, an employee of the Lake County coroner’s office who conducted the autopsy, informed the police that “all of the damage was internal” and that “the rubber from the mallet might prevent the damage from being visible from the outside.”
The affidavit stated that Rawal was seen visiting Losinski’s home several times between February 20 and February 23, according to surveillance footage from cameras nearby.
In the affidavit, the detective noted that Rawal was the last person to be spotted entering Losinski’s house.
According to the criminal documents, Rawal claimed to have known Losinski for seven or eight years and to have met her when she frequented the Marathon petrol station at 8031 E. 109th Ave., where he worked.
According to the affidavit, Rawal initially told police that he and Losinski were close friends and denied having a sexual relationship with her. Nevertheless, he then described their relationship as “friends with sexual advantages” and declared his love for her.
According to the affidavit, when officers demanded access to Rawal’s phone records, he had deleted all of his messages and phone calls.
According to the affidavit, police were able to retrieve Losinski and Rawal’s text messages via Losinski’s laptop, which showed that the two maintained a consistent line of communication.
The affidavit stated that the messages also suggested that Haley Losinski and Raju Rawal had a sexual relationship.
According to the affidavit, the two last spoke on February 22. There have since been no further calls or texts between them, and police “believe this to be evidence of his knowledge of her death prior to her body being discovered” given the volume of calls that took place before abruptly ceasing during the time of her death.
According to the affidavit, Rawal initially denied going to Losinski’s house on February 23 but then acknowledged going there and said Losinski was still alive when he last saw her.
Rawal’s regular customers at the Marathon, where he worked, claimed they were shocked to learn of his apparent involvement in Losinski’s passing.
Customer Amber Bees said, “I was quite astonished when I (saw) it was him).” “I am here almost every day basically, so I see him fairly regularly and he was always so kind and charming,” Bees said.
Jeff Messinio, a different customer, repeated Bees’ remarks and noted that Rawal had seemed quieter recently than normal.
According to the affidavit, a woman who identified herself as Rawal’s girlfriend since 2015 claimed that he had been oddly quiet when she spoke to police on March 7. Records reveal he informed her he didn’t want to talk about it over the phone when they spoke the day before, despite the fact that the girlfriend said she asked him what was going on.
According to court documents, the girlfriend said that Rawal told her that she and Losinski were acquaintances but not close friends.
The date for Rawal’s first court appearance is not yet set.
