Carlos Orlando Villatoro Escobar, 43, Jose Armando Escobar, 52, Mahlon Simmons II, 52, Mahlon Simmons III, 31, Rolando Ruiz, 46, of Laurel, and Sybil Lee Dimaggio, 46, of Glen Burnie has been identified as the six victims who died in a fatal car accident on I-695 in Baltimore County on Wednesday afternoon.
According to authorities, four of the six construction workers killed on Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision on I-695 in Baltimore County were from the Frederick region.
According to a news release from the Maryland State Police on Thursday, two Frederick residents, Jose Armando Escobar, 52, and Carlos Orlando Villatoro Escobar, 43, were among the six fatalities in the collision.
In Union Bridge, close to the border with Frederick County, Mahlon Simmons II, 52, and Mahlon Simmons III, 31, both passed away. Rolando Ruiz, 46, of Laurel and Sybil Lee Dimaggio, 46, of Glen Burnie were the other two fatalities.
They were all a part of a team that was constructing the left shoulder of I-695’s inner loop close to Security Boulevard.
At around 12:40 on Wednesday, the State Police reported that Randallstown resident Lisa Adrienne Lea, 54, was operating a 2017 Acura TLX.
Her vehicle collided with the front corner panel of a 2017 Volkswagen being driven by Melachi Brown, 20, of Windsor Mills, as she attempted to go into the leftmost lane. Brown’s car had moved into the far-left lane.
Lea’s Acura overturned and ended up in the construction area. According to Baltimore police, she is undergoing medical care at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
According to investigators, Brown’s car broke down and came to a stop north of the accident. He had no wounds.
The notification stated that the National Transportation Safety Board, Maryland Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health, and the Maryland State Police Crash Team are cooperating to investigate the collision.
The Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the Crash Team’s findings after the investigation is complete to decide whether to press charges.
