According to their relatives, an American couple traveling to Haiti was abducted from a bus almost a week ago and is currently being held for ransom.
When they were kidnapped on a bus from Port-au-Prince on Saturday, Jean-Dickens Toussaint and his wife, Abigail Toussaint, of Tamarac, Florida, were in Haiti to visit sick relatives and attend a neighborhood festival, according to their family.
According to the claim, a family friend who met the couple at the airport to accompany them was also abducted.
In response to a question regarding the incident, the U.S. Department of State said it is “aware of reports of two U.S. citizens missing in Haiti,” but it did not confirm a kidnapping.
The acquaintance who was accompanying the Toussaints got in touch with his family and told them about the ransom demands.
