Seven deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office are suing Ohio-based rap musician Joseph Edgar Foreman, often known as Afroman, for utilizing video from their 2022 raid of his home to create and market new music.
According to a complaint, the police claimed that Foreman’s use of their likeness and photographs was “malicious” and damaged their reputations.
According to a March 13 complaint, the case is related to a search of Foreman’s residence on August 21, 2022, which was carried out with a “lawfully granted search warrant.”
Although Foreman, who is best known for the song “Because I Got High,” wasn’t at home during the search, his wife was there and she captured some of it on her phone. Also, his home had numerous security cameras that captured the search.
The seven law enforcement officials claim that Foreman exploited the video recordings to create music and music videos about the search after the raid. They claimed that “dozens” of videos and photographs posted on various social media websites “clearly represent” their likeness and images.
In addition to other things, they are suing him for illegal use of people’s personas, invasion of privacy by misappropriation, and invasion of privacy by misleading light publicity. The police have asked for a jury trial.
