In the early hours of Wednesday, a teen girl was shot and murdered in a western Birmingham neighborhood, while another was injured.
West Precinct police in the early hours of the morning. The 3000 block of Avenue F in Ensley has been the subject of numerous Shot Spotter alerts. They found the young woman lying on the sidewalk in a residential area, unresponsive.
She was confirmed deceased at the scene by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.
The victim was named Jada Mahogany White by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. When she was 16 years old.
A few blocks away, police located another young female, also estimated to be in her teens, hiding inside a car. She had been shot as well, but unlike the others, her wounds didn’t look too serious.
A young man was also in the car, although he escaped injury.
According to initial reports from Officer Truman Fitzgerald’s investigation, the adolescents were in the 3000 block of Avenue F when an argument broke out and shots were fired. It appears that the survivors got back into their car and sped off without first pausing to call the police.
According to Fitzgerald, there were a number of spent shot casings on the floor. There have been no reported arrests.
Fitzgerald speculated that students from Birmingham City Schools might be among the victims. . And on Sunday in Birmingham, a teen male (aged 17) was murdered by gunfire. Until recently, he was a student at Jackson-Olin High.
Birmingham police issued a reminder of the city’s curfew five days ago, just before Spring Break began. Teens under the age of 17 are not permitted to be out after 9 p.m. At 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Specifically, on Friday and Saturday nights. The midnight curfew lasts till 6am. every day.
That was our primary concern when we put up the curfew notices, Fitzgerald said. “We hoped that by spreading the news, we could help avoid what happened this morning.”
This is the 26th homicide in Birmingham this year, and the ninth murder in the city in the past nine days. Two murders out of the total of 26 have been found justified and are therefore not considered criminal acts.
