Following a three-vehicle chain-reaction incident late on Thursday afternoon in Niagara Region, a 10-year-old kid from Beamsville has passed away.
Around 5:30 p.m., a collision occurred on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Lincoln, just west of Tufford Road, headed toward Niagara.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt stated in a video shared to social media on Friday morning that police now believe a vehicle’s driver was on the QEW when they encountered “slowing or halted traffic.”
He explained the incident, saying “that vehicle, operated by a 31-year-old from Mississauga, collided into the rear of a white SUV being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Beamsville with two 10-year-old brothers in the back seat.” He added the vehicle was then pushed forward into another white SUV being driven by a 37-year-old from Milton.
One of the boys was freed from the white SUV’s back seat by paramedics and firefighters, according to Schmidt, and was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. By nine o’clock last night, that infant was declared dead, he added.
The 37-year-old driver of the second white SUV, the victim’s 44-year-old mother, and the 10-year-old victim’s other kid were all taken to the hospital with minor wounds.
According to Schmidt, the driver who initially rear-ended the car with the mother and two youngsters inside was unharmed.
