Manuel Moreira and Wayne Bourdon Death: Authorities identify two killed in fire at a boarding house in New Bedford.
Investigators have figured out what started the fatal fire on Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford on Tuesday that forced the evacuation of around a dozen residents, critically injured five others, and claimed the lives of two individuals who have been identified.
According to the Department of Fire Services State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey’s office, the fire originated on the second story of a rooming-style house in Room 205 and was started by a microwave that was used just moments before the fire started or the wall outlet it was attached to.
About 24 inhabitants were saved by firefighters, while five badly injured inmates were also sent to St. Luke’s Emergency Center, one of them was in serious condition, while the other man was evacuated to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.
Wayne Bourdon, 63, and Manuel Moreira, 59, both locals, were recognized as the two fatalities from the blaze.
