On Tuesday night, Topeka police announced that 33-year-old Sherman Coleman Jr. of Topeka was the victim of a homicide that happened early on Monday evening in southeast Topeka. There had been no arrests.
According to Police Lt. Ed Stanley, Coleman was found with a gunshot wound in the 2300 block of S.E. Bellview Avenue shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Bellview is six blocks east of S.E. California Avenue and goes north and south.
Coleman was transferred to a hospital in Topeka where he was later declared dead, according to Stanley.
Coleman’s death’s circumstances are still being investigated.

The homicide on Monday was the 13th this year in Topeka. The city set a record for homicides in a calendar year in 2017 with 30.
