Garland Owensby, a professor at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, due to a fatal accident in Waxahachie, Texas. Garland Owensby began his tenure as a teacher at Southwestern in the autumn of 1998.
Garland Owensby is the professor and coordinator for the youth and student ministries at the school. According to sources, he has expressed his commitment to equipping young individuals for a lifelong career in youth ministry.
Aaron Hosterman wrote, “I have just learned of the passing of Garland Owensby. My heart hurts for his family in this time of mourning. Garland was such a great person with a gentle soul, I remember back to the mid 90’s when you came to be with us at the assembly of God in Ocala. I can only imagine the lives that you have changed and the blessings you are receiving now because of it. I will see you again one day my friend, until then your memory will remain in my heart”
Owensby was raised in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. According to sources, he is reportedly married to Tiffani (Hester) and together they have three sons named Logan (born in 2000), Austin (born in 1997), and Bryson.
Before coming to Southwestern, Garland worked as a children’s and teen evangelist with Don Triplett and the Castillo del Rey team in El Salvador, Central America. After that, he took on the role of a local church minister. He started as the children’s and youth pastor at Northside Assembly of God in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Later, he became the youth pastor at First Assembly of God in Ocala, Florida.

According to reports, Garland has recently obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in pastoral ministries from Southeastern College, which is affiliated with the Assemblies of God and located in Lakeland, Florida. According to reports, the individual in question has recently obtained a Master of Science in Practical Theology and a Master of Arts in Bible & Theology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. He earned a doctorate in educational ministries from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. A doctoral project was conducted to aid students in integrating traditional spiritual practices into their daily routines.
Owensby has been actively involved in evangelistic ministry, delivering speeches in churches, youth groups, public school assemblies, training sessions, youth camps, and conventions throughout the country. A favorite of churches, he was known for his engaged, humorous, and biblical preaching style.
In a notable achievement, Owensby has written for a range of publications including YouthWorker Journal, Youth Leader Magazine, The Ocala Star Banner, the Pentecostal Evangel, TheRomantic.com, The52.com, Momentum Leadership Training, The Evangel, and the book “Hot Illustrations for Youth Talks 3” edited by Wayne Rice. Owensby has also contributed a feature article titled “Uncommon Communion” to Group Magazine.
