Jack Hayford Death – Obituary: Founding Pastor of The Church on the Way Died Unexpectedly

Jack Hayford Death – Obituary: Founding Pastor of The Church on the Way Died Unexpectedly: According to an online obituary on Sunday, January 8, 2023, Jack Hayford has passed away unexpectedly. However, cause of death was not disclosed.

Jack Hayford served as chancellor of The King’s University in Southlake, Texas, which he founded in 1997, and was president of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel from 2004-2009. He also wrote over 50 books and composed more than 500 hymns and choruses, including the internationally known and widely recorded “Majesty.” But he was probably best-known as “Pastor Jack,” serving The Church on the Way for over three decades.

Born on June 25, 1934, the infant Hayford was gripped by a life-threatening illness and miraculously healed through the prayers of friends and family. Later, he was attacked by polio, and church elders anointed him and prayed for his healing. God granted another miracle.

“These two extraordinary events ignited in Jack’s heart a passion for God and convinced him that the Holy Spirit is alive and active in the contemporary church,” his ministry’s website says. “Contrary to our preconceptions, God is not economical with healings and miracles,” Hayford said. “Such wondrous works are frequently attending the proclamation of truth in Jesus’ name.”

Hayford’s wife of more than 60 years, Anna, died of pancreatic cancer on March 8, 2017 at age 83. He and Anna had four children: Rebecca, Jack III, Mark and Christina. He married his second wife, Valarie, in 2018.

Morning his death, Scott Reece wrote;

Immediately after church today, I received word that Pastor Jack Hayford had gone to be with the Lord this morning.
Many of us have our Pastor Jack stories. I have so many memories of this man of God whom I never had the chance to sit under, but impacted my life in significant ways.
I first met Pastor Jack while pastoring Living Way Church, (named after his ministry). In fact, he gave us permission to use that name. Several years later, he was instrumental in my selection as a district supervisor. I will never forget standing in my office with my young family while Pastor put his arms around us and graciously covered us with a fatherly love and prayer.
When Veronica passed away, Pastor Jack was a key factor in helping walk through a difficult season. He helped me understand so much of what I could never have known.
When choosing a University for my doctoral studies, it really wasn’t a difficult decision. I wanted to go to The King’s, founded by Pastor Jack. TKU carries his heart, spirit, and anointing.
I just released my latest book “The Modern Day Apostle.” I dedicated it to Pastor Jack, who was the first leader to identify my apostolic gifting and calling.
You will be deeply missed Pastor. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in a young, southern boy who wanted nothing more than to be you when he grew up.
Hallelujah, Lord!
