John Robert Nelson Jr. and Marlon Emory Car Accident: Khaleel Johnson Arrested in Connection With Double-Fatal University Heights Car Accident.
An arrest has been made, according to University Heights Police, in a fiery crash that claimed the lives of two persons over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
In the vicinity of Cedar and Brockway Roads, a vehicle collided with a utility pole and caught fire on Saturday at 430 p.m., according to the police.
When the police came, they saw two burning cars next to a power pole, one on top of the other.
Police said they spotted the suspected pedestrian on the front lawn of a nearby house where a Good Samaritan was attending to his serious hand and leg injuries.
Fire departments from University Heights and Cleveland Heights arrived on the scene and put out the fire.
One unidentified dead individual was found inside each vehicle.
The suspected pedestrian was attended to and taken to the University Hospital by paramedics from the University Heights Fire Department.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office was able to positively identify both victims on Tuesday: Marlon Emory, 20, of South Euclid, Ohio, and John Robert Nelson Jr., 57, of Akron, Ohio.
Following an inquiry, it was discovered that the driver of the car where victim Marlon Emory was found was the purported pedestrian victim. Khaleel Johnson, 19, of South Euclid was detained by UHPD on the main campus of the hospital.
Johnson was brought to the Solon Jail after being charged with two charges of aggravated vehicular homicide.
Johnson appeared in Shaker Heights Municipal Court on Wednesday and declined to have a preliminary hearing. The Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Grand Jury was tasked with handling the case.
A $200,000 bond was imposed for Johnson.
