On Tuesday afternoon, a fatal crash occurred at the Slayground Motocross Park, a private motocross facility located near Sutherland Dam Road, east of Ramona. The victim was a dirt bike rider.
According to CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber, a rider who is 29 years old attempted a jump but failed to land properly. As a result, the motorcycle seemed to have fallen on top of the rider.
According to Brent Pascua, spokesperson for Cal Fire San Diego, witnesses at the facility reported a crash at approximately 3 p.m. The rider was given CPR by witnesses until emergency responders arrived and took over. Despite continued CPR efforts by responders, the rider was pronounced dead at around 3:40 p.m.
According to the X Games website, the facility is owned by Encinitas-native motocross rider Axell Hodges and is frequently utilized for motocross training and certain X Games competitions.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will be investigating the collision and related death as it occurred on private property.

A 29-year-old dirt bike rider, Pat Casey, tragically lost his life on Tuesday afternoon following a devastating accident at Slayground Motocross Park.
According to reports, the rider was attempting a jump at a private motocross facility located near Sutherland Dam Road, east of Ramona, when the incident occurred.
In a regrettable turn of events, Pat was unable to execute a successful landing of the jump, resulting in the motorcycle toppling over and landing on top of them.
At approximately 3 pm, witnesses at the facility promptly reported the crash. The injured rider received immediate CPR from the individuals present until the arrival of emergency responders.
The rider was pronounced dead despite the responders’ efforts to resuscitate him until approximately 3:40 pm.
