Lacey Fletcher Obituary News: Disabled Woman Aged 36 Found Dead at Parents Home in Clinton
A district judge dismissed murder charges against Lacey Fletcher, 36, a disabled woman who was discovered dead at her parents’ Clinton, New York, home on January 3, 2022.
On June 19, a new grand jury will hear the case from the district attorney Sam D’Aquilla.
Authorities discovered Fletcher on a 1960s-style sofa, covered in feces and urine. The woman died while her parents were gone on a weekend getaway, according to the coroner’s office. According to reports, the parents said their daughter suffered from severe social anxiety and autism.
On May 2, 2022, a grand jury of 12 in Clinton charged Clay and Sheila Fletcher with second-degree murder.
Later this month, the pair was scheduled to go on trial for the allegations.
However, District Judge Kathryn Jones of the 20th JDC allowed a motion to suppress the indictment at a hearing on May 30. According to representatives of the East Feliciana Parish Clerk of Court’s Office, that action followed inquiries from defense attorneys about the wording of an addendum on the indictment.
D’Aquilla said WAFB that the defense presented three arguments to overturn the indictment. Since the first had no clear purpose, the judge rejected it. Since the second was not foreperson-signed, the judge rejected it. The third was the indictment’s phrasing, which the judge approved.
Steve Moore, the defense lawyer for the Fletchers, was contacted by WAFB but he was unable to comment at this time.
The couple is still free on bail.
Before the year is out, D’Aquilla hopes to have a new trial date.
