Ted Kaczynski Cause of Death: “Unabomber,” domestic terrorist found dead in prison cell.
The domestic terrorist known as the Unabomber, whose decades-long campaign of mail bombings left investigators perplexed and three dead and hundreds injured, has passed away at age 81.
Kaczynski was discovered dead in his jail cell at a medical facility in North Carolina, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which verified his passing on Saturday.
Kaczynski was transferred from his longtime supermax Colorado prison to North Carolina’s FMC Butner last December, a facility that typically treats inmates with serious health issues. He was serving multiple life sentences in prison after pleading guilty in 1998 to 16 bombings in a plea deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty.
Theodore John Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, was an American mathematician and domestic terrorist. He was a mathematics prodigy but abandoned his academic career in 1969 to pursue a more primitive life.
Between 1978 and 1995, Kaczynski killed three people and injured 23 others in a nationwide mail bombing campaign against people he believed to be advancing modern technology and the destruction of the environment. He authored Industrial Society and Its Future, a 35,000-word manifesto and social critique opposing industrialization, rejecting leftism, and advocating for a nature-centered form of anarchism.
