Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar Obituary News: Two students, 19-Year-Old of Uni of Notts killed by Stabbing in Nottingham attacks, Ilkeston Road
Following the confirmation of two 19-year-old University of Nottingham students’ deaths, some students are afraid to leave their residences.
Two 19-year-old students recognized locally as Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar were among those killed in the mysterious incidents that occurred in Nottingham early on Tuesday morning. A third victim, a man in his 50s, is still unidentified.
After the killings, students in the city said they are terrified to stroll the streets.
West of the city center in Radford, near student housing, the students were fatally stabbed on Ilkeston Road.
Concern spread throughout the academic community after the University of Nottingham revealed that two of the victims of the attack in the early hours of Tuesday were students.
Students in the Mooch pub in the Student Union were stunned and trying to make sense of what had transpired. One kid, who requested anonymity, told the Guardian, “It’s really scary, it’s a really busy part of the city.” It might have been my friend who was returning home at about the same time.
The students claimed that a number of activities had taken place in the city on Monday night, including a party at the Pryzm nightclub, from which the victims would have been leaving.
Officers from the Student Union made a statement announcing the cancellation of the Grad Ball scheduled for Tuesday night.
An anonymous student wrote to the Guardian to say: “Our leavers’ Grad ball was scheduled for tonight but has suddenly been canceled. Many of their fellow students, who were formerly eager to take advantage of their last few days in this beautiful city, are now afraid to leave their homes.
“Last night, while my window was wide open, I heard a piercing scream. I would have to walk along Ilkeston road, where this horrible murder took place, to get from a night out to either my current home or my first-year housing. It’s genuinely dangerous to be a student here right now.
The high-rise “Nottingham Student Quarter – Student Roost” is located in the area of the city where Ilkeston Road leads from the city center. This area of the city has a substantial amount of student housing.
Hundreds of people held a vigil at St. Peter’s cathedral in the heart of the city to pay their respects to those who had passed away and been hurt. The service, which was primarily attended by young people in their 20s and 30s, included an invitation for attendees to light candles or leave flowers beneath the altar.
The Right Reverend Paul Williams, the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, stated that the chance to “pray for those whose lives have been so cruelly taken away” was provided by the impromptu service. According to the bishop, the city was “in collective shock and disbelief.”
Students from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham were present at the vigil.
A University of Nottingham second-year student who was speaking to the media outside the church claimed she was unaware of the victims. “We live fairly close to where, unfortunately, they were found, so it has properly shook up a lot of people,” she continued of the two fatalities near the Ilkeston Road area. It’s very scary. This is really awful what has happened.
Unknown is the identify of the third attack victim discovered at Magdala Road.
All of the victims’ families have been notified, and they are receiving care from specially trained officers.
Vice-Chancellor Shearer West of the University of Nottingham issued a statement in which he said, “We are all terribly shocked and saddened by the loss of two of our students following a significant incident in Nottingham city center.
“I am confident that the entire university community will join me in sending our sincere sympathies to the victims’ families, close friends, and anybody else who was hurt in the event. At this terribly trying time, they are all very much in our thoughts.
The university is assisting the friends and family of the students, and our security team is coordinating closely with the authorities and the Nottinghamshire police to help the continuing investigation into the incident.
