H. Jon Runstad, a pioneer in Seattle’s real estate for more than 50 years who oversaw the construction of recognizable structures that now dot the city’s skyline, passed away on Tuesday. He was 81.
In 1972, Runstad established Wright Runstad & Company in Seattle. As the company’s lengthy CEO, he oversaw the construction of several downtown high-rises, including the second- and third-tallest structures in the city, Rainier Square Tower and 1201 Third Avenue.
He also contributed to the construction of the Husky Stadium at the University of Washington, which was finished in 2013, as well as the ongoing Spring District development in Bellevue, which started in 2007.
