The National Transportation Safety Board reported that an airport employee passed away on Friday at San Antonio International Airport after being “ingested” into a Delta flight’s engine.
Around 10:25 p.m., the fatal incident occurred while Delta Flight 1111 was taxiing to the gate on one engine after arriving at the airport. An Airbus A319 was on board, and it had just landed at Los Angeles International Airport.
Unifi, a business with which Delta has a contract, employed the worker to support ground-handling operations. The casualty was an airport ramp employee, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s statement on Friday.
“We are heartbroken and grieving the loss of an aviation family member’s life in San Antonio,” a Delta spokesperson said. “Our hearts and full support are with their family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The occurrence, according to Unifi, did not seem to be connected to the business’ operating processes, safety procedures, or regulations, according to their own early inquiry.
