Rory Deegan Obituary News: 22-year-old Oldtown Man Found dead in a Swimming Pool in Zakynthos, Greece
After his remains were recently returned to Ireland, the funeral plans for a young student who tragically drowned in a swimming pool in Greece have been made public.
On June 25 of last year, Rory Deegan (age 22), of Oldtown, Cullohill, Co. Laois, was discovered dead in a swimming pool in Zakynthos, Greece.
With four other students, Rory, a student at the Technological University of the Shannon in Limerick, traveled to the Greek island to work for the summer.
In the Co. Kilkenny community of Urlingford, his parents own and operate the well-known Deegan’s Centra store.
The family expressed their gratitude to the community for all of their support in a touching statement on social media.
As many of you may be aware, Rory Deegan’s demise caused the Deegan family and this community to experience a sad loss.
“Rory will always hold a special place in everyone’s heart. He was always ready to smile and laugh when he met new people in the business, whether they were customers or friends. The community’s generosity and support only serve to highlight how highly everyone regarded Rory and how much he will be missed.
“May his kind soul find eternal peace. Our store will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm as a sign of respect.
His parents Joe and Diane, brothers Conor, Barry, Ross, Jack, and sister Rachael all survive Rory, who was preceded in death by his infant sister Laura.
He will rest on Sunday, July 2nd, and Monday, July 3rd, starting at 4 p.m. on both days and ending with prayers at 8 p.m. on both nights. Removal will take place on Tuesday, July 4th, to St. Tighearnach’s Church in Cullohill. Requiem Mass will start at noon, and then there will be an interment in the nearby Cemetery.
