Christopher David Fitzgerald Death: On February 8th, 2023, Christopher M. Fitzgerald dies suddenly in a manner that was unexpected. At the Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont, on May 2, 1983, Chris was born to Cathy Fitzgerald and Stuart Mansoh. His parents were married at the time.
Christopher David Fitzgerald shot and killed Saturday night near 17th Street and Montgomery Avenue near the campus border, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said.
Temple said this was the first time in the school’s history that a university security officer had been killed in the line of duty. The fatal shooting shocked the North Philadelphia campus where safety concerns have been mounting.
The name of the officer was being withheld, but sources identified him as Christopher David Fitzgerald, 31, the son of a prominent police official, Joel Fitzgerald, who spent 17 years with the Philadelphia Police Department before ascending to higher-profile law enforcement positions across the country.
“We are heartbroken tonight,” said Temple president Jason Wingard, choking back tears. Said Ken Kaiser, the school’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, “It just shakes everybody to the core.” He said that in his 32 years at the school, this was the first incident of a fatal shooting of a campus police officer.
He earned his diploma from Peoples Academy High school and was a diligent worker throughout his life, spending time tending lawns and doing a variety of other jobs. His favorite things to do outside were fishing, hunting, kayaking, skiing, and golfing. He also enjoyed playing golf. The Fourth of July party that he hosted for his family and friends was without a doubt one of the most memorable events of his year.
He is survived by his mother, Cathy Fitzgerald, as well as his daughter, Maliah Fitzgerald, who was the source of his greatest pride. He never failed to give much of the credit for her being such a beautiful daughter to Kristin Moodie, the woman who raised her. His cherished sisters and brother, Elizabeth and Michael Immich, as well as his beloved sister, Sarah Fitzgerald. Shirley Fitzgerald and Howard Manosh were my grandmother and grandfather, respectively. Chucky Fitzgerald, his uncle, and the two of them have a unique connection. His Aunt, as well as his childhood friend Lisa Barrett, in addition to a large number of other cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lisa Barrett. His devoted father, Stuart Manosh, as well as his grandfather, Almeron Fitzgerald, and, most recently, his great-grandmother and great-grandfather, Elsa and Lauren Wells, also known as “Pops,” all passed away before him.
This summer, relatives and friends of Chris Fitzgerald are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate his life.
