During the Krewe of Bacchus procession in New Orleans, according to the authorities, a shooting took place, which resulted in one person being killed and four other people being injured.
A small girl, a lady, and three men were among the victims, and all of them were taken to a hospital after the incident.
The New Orleans Police Department reported that one of the male victims ultimately passed away, while the health of the juvenile victim was reported to be stable and at least one victim remained in critical condition.
A suspect has been taken into custody by the authorities. This information was revealed by Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier during a news conference that took place on Monday morning.
Although one individual was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting, Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier voiced confusion as to whether or not anyone else was involved in the incident and noted that the investigation is ongoing.
In addition, there were two firearms discovered at the scene. Ganthier bemoaned the fact that this was not an incidence that they wanted to happen, as they had hoped for a peaceful Mardi Gras celebration and will continue to work towards the aim of having a safe celebration.
The incident resulted in the temporary suspension of the superkrewe of Bacchus parade that was taking place on St. Charles Avenue, however an officer has confirmed that the procession will shortly resume in order to clear the area for the ongoing inquiry.
The New Orleans Police Department is currently conducting an investigation to determine whether or not other individuals are involved in this incident.
