According to the New York State Police, a man was murdered on Monday night in East Islip after a wrong-way driver struck his vehicle on Heckscher State Parkway.
Police reported that Roy Nelson, 73, of Holbrook, impacted a 2020 Tesla head-on while operating a 2010 Hyundai Sonata northbound in the southbound lanes of the Southern/Heckscher State Parkway, between Exits 44 and 45.
Nelson was brought to South Shore University Hospital but eventually passed away from his wounds, according to police. With non-life threatening wounds, the Tesla’s driver was also transferred to South Shore University Hospital.
According to a preliminary inquiry, Nelson might have experienced a medical emergency.
