A prayer service will be held Wednesday night at St. Michael’s Church for an 18-year-old who is receiving intensive care at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.
Liam Moran, a senior at St. Francis DeSales, was seriously hurt when a passenger in a car that was involved in an accident Friday night behind Thomas Worthington High School.
Sean and Jean Moran have supported their son throughout his recovery from multiple facial fractures and a catastrophic brain injury.
“It’s the realization of your darkest nightmare. It’s happening to you, and you just simply can’t believe it, ” Jean added.
“It’s a shock because you go from one minute just laughing and telling him to be careful like you always do and then all of a sudden life changes,” Sean said.
Worthington Police have charged the 18-year-old driver of the car with OVI and reckless operation. Police reports said the teen driver was traveling about sixty miles an hour on a service road near athletic fields, hit a speed bump, lost control, and struck a tree.
We are not naming the teen driver since he is a high school student. A third teen was in the car but not seriously hurt.
“It is just the call that no parent wants to get. and we got that call,” Sean said.
Jean said she hopes parents talk with their student drivers about the choices they make.
Make sure you are always just being careful in everything you do, you just never know what could happen and things change in an instant.”
“Liam is a real sweet kid. Sometimes you have to get to know him a little better just to know how kind he is, kind-hearted,” Jean said.
The family said Liam is into weightlifting and was healthy before the crash.
“He’s a tough kid as well, mentally tough. I think this is going to help him,” Jean said. “Not only is he physically strong but mentally tough.”
The Moran family said they are hanging on to hope and appreciate the community’s love.
“It means everything. I honestly don’t think we could have gotten through this without knowing that and without all the support, constant texts, and emails from people I don’t even know,” Jean said.
“You always have to have faith in your Savior and in your friends. Don’t lose hope. We are not going to lose hope. Just keep praying for him,” Sean said.
