Katherine Koonce Obituary News: Head of School identified among six killed in shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville.
The six deceased victims in the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville are identified as;
9-year-old- Hallie Scruggs, a 3rd grader & also the daughter of the Pastor of the Christian School.
60-year-old Dr. Katherine Koonce, head of school for the past 7 years.
61-year-old Mike Hill, a custodian for the past 13yrs at the School.
61-year-old Cynthia Peak, a loving wife, mother of 3 & a substitute teacher.
9-year-old Evelyn Dieckhaus, a 3rd grader.
9-year-old William Kinney, a 3rd grader.
On March 27, 2023, a mass shooting occurred at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian private school in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville. Six people were killed as well as the perpetrator. Three children and three staff members were the victims. The shooter, identified as 28-year-old former student Audrey Elizabeth Hale, was killed by responding police officers.
The shooting began during the morning at around 10:13 a.m. According to police the shooter, Audrey Hale, drove a Honda Fit to the school, parking it in the lot. He shot through a side door to gain entry into the building, armed with an assault-style rifle, an assault-style pistol, and a handgun. Hale walked across the second floor of the school before opening fire.
When police officers arrived, they began to evacuate the first floor until they heard gunshots coming from the second floor. They quickly went to the second floor and encountered Hale, who was still firing. The officers engaged and fatally shot Hale at 10:27 a.m.
Three children and three staff members were killed in the attack, with one police officer suffering a hand injury from shattered glass.
