Sara Yara Obituary News – Car Accident: Honolulu teen killed in hit-and-run crash on Kapiolani Boulevard.
While Honolulu Police now have a suspect in the deadly hit-and-run case, it will likely take months before he is charged. During that time, he will be free. Tonight, we’ll find out why these cases always take so long.
Wednesday’s crash killed 16-year-old Sara Yara and injured another McKinley High School student as they were crossing Kapiolani Boulevard by Kamakee Street. The police said that the pickup truck’s driver was going too fast, ran a red light, and then left the truck a few blocks away.
The suspect turned himself in on Thursday night, February 16, but the police let him go until they could do more research. Sara’s mom said that it’s frustrating that the suspect is still out there, but she doesn’t like to think about bad things.
