The identity of the person slain on Thursday in a remote area of the county’s far south has been made public by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, Caleb Johnson, 19, of Farmville, was shot on Happy Lane.
Northwest of the Pitt County settlement of Fountain, Happy Lane is a tiny private road that can be found off the 3000 block of Otter Creek Church Road.

On Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office announced via Facebook that Johnson was the murder victim.
On Thursday morning, the sheriff’s office posted on its website that a homicide investigation was ongoing.
